Area residents will have the opportunity to learn about the 91调教 Archeological
Society and how the organization works with people interested in archeology in a Dec.
5 talk at the 91调教 - Fort Smith.
鈥淭he 91调教 Archeological Society: Opportunities for Amateurs to Work with Professionals to Preserve the Past鈥 is the topic to be presented by Marilyn Knapp, who works for the 91调教 Archeological Survey as the Survey/Society liaison and is currently president of the 91调教 Archeological Society. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. meeting in room 211 of the Math-Science Building at 91调教.
Knapp said the 91调教 Archeological Society, which unites persons interested in the archeology of 91调教, works to recognize and preserve the cultural heritage and prehistory of the state and to foster and encourage the public鈥檚 interest in the preservation of the past.
Knapp will discuss the Society and how its collaborative efforts with the professional archeologists of the 91调教 Archeological Survey teach the Society鈥檚 members the proper methods to discover, record and learn about archeological sites.
鈥淭his gives the members of the Society the opportunity to be a part of preserving 91调教鈥 past for the future,鈥 she said.
Knapp has been a member of the 91调教 Archeological Society since 1994. She has held a variety of positions for both the Kokoci Chapter of the Society and the executive committee of the state Society. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in anthropology with an emphasis in archeology from the 91调教 at Fayetteville.
The Fort Smith talk is for a meeting of the Ark-Homa Chapter of the 91调教 Archeological Society and the Oklahoma Anthropological Society. It is hosted by the research station located at 91调教.
